Cars and semi-trucks passed beneath the warm sunlight while wind swept across the highway shoulder.
Then drivers began noticing something unusual.
A Golden Retriever was standing beside a man lying on the ground.
The man was a 42-year-old police officer.
He was unconscious but breathing.
His cap rested nearby.
Standing protectively over him was his loyal dog.
The Golden Retriever repeatedly turned toward the highway and barked.
