Golden-hour sunlight stretched across the busy American highway.
Cars passed in the distance while dry grass moved in the roadside wind.
Beside a chain-link fence, an adult Golden Retriever was behaving strangely.
She repeatedly stood on her hind legs.
Her front paws pressed against the fence.
Then anyone looking upward could understand why.
Two tiny Golden Retriever puppies were tangled inside loose red safety mesh attached above the ground.
Below them, two more puppies waited beside the fence posts.
Their mother remained directly underneath.
She wasn’t leaving without them.
Then a Man Noticed the Family
A 42-year-old man approached along the dirt shoulder.
The moment he saw the puppies, he moved closer with a pair of heavy-duty cutters.
Their mother noticed him.
Instead of moving away, she approached and gently pressed her nose against his sleeve.
The man looked upward.
Two puppies were safely on the ground.
Two others still needed help.
He couldn’t simply pull them through the mesh.
That could frighten them or make the situation more difficult.
So he positioned himself directly underneath.
He Supported Them Before Cutting Anything
The man reached upward with one gloved hand.
First, he supported the puppies from underneath.
Only then did he raise the cutters.
He carefully positioned them against an outer section of the red plastic mesh, keeping the tool well away from their fur.
The mother remained beside his leg.
The other two puppies sat near his boots.
Then he started opening the mesh.

Carefully.
One section at a time.
Soon, there was enough space to bring the first puppy down.
The First Puppy Reached Mom
The man secured the little dog with both hands.
Then he gently lowered it.
As soon as the puppy reached the ground, its mother leaned forward.
