The car’s interior felt suffocating, the air thick with unspoken tension. As my father turned to face me, his eyes were filled with a wavering mix of fear and resolve. “This isn’t easy to say,” he began, his voice barely above a whisper. “But there’s something you need to know about David.”

The name of Emily’s new husband hung in the air, and my heart sank. What could possibly be so dire that it required this cloak-and-dagger approach? My mind raced through possibilities—none that seemed likely, all that seemed terrifying.“Dad, what is it?” I pressed, trying to keep my voice steady.

He took a deep breath, his hands trembling slightly as he began to speak. “David isn’t who he says he is. He’s been lying to Emily… to everyone.”The words hit me like a physical blow. David? The man who had lovingly looked at Emily throughout their vows, who had tenderly kissed her as they were pronounced husband and wife? It seemed inconceivable. “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice rising with a mix of disbelief and desperation.
