As the last strands of the net fell away, the bear stood still, a massive presence that seemed to fill the space between us. My heart thudded loudly in my chest, every instinct screaming to run, to get back to the safety of my car. Yet, something held me there, a strange, unspoken connection forged through that tense, shared ordeal.
The bear’s amber eyes, once wild and full of desperation, now softened. It took a step towards me, and I braced myself for the worst, but then something unexpected happened. With a slow, deliberate movement, the bear lowered its head, almost as if nodding, then gently touched its nose to the back of my hand. It was a gesture so tender and unexpected that I gasped, feeling a strange mix of relief and wonder wash over me.
