The weight of his words crushed the breath from my lungs. My mind reeled, struggling to process this sudden twist of fate. The man I thought I loved was not who he seemed, and now my life was tangled in a web of espionage and deceit.
Fear prickled my skin as I tried to find my voice. “I don’t understand. Why didn’t anyone tell me sooner?”
