After I left the venue, I felt humiliated and betrayed by my own family. However, I also felt a surging sense of resilience. The morning after the wedding, I received a barrage of text messages and missed calls from my family. They ranged from demanding apologies for “ruining” the wedding to outrightly calling me selfish. I ignored them all, needing time to process the previous day’s events. By the afternoon, I had decided it was time to take control of the situation.

I called a family meeting at my house. As they arrived, I could see the tension etched on their faces. Caleb and Amanda were the last to come, with Amanda wearing a smug expression. Once everyone settled, I took a deep breath and began speaking.
