Bright sunlight covered the quiet American golf course.
Across the fairway, everything appeared peaceful.
Then a small movement came from inside a deep circular concrete pit.
At the bottom was a tiny spotted fawn.
Hundreds of white golf balls surrounded its little legs.
The baby tried to climb.
Its front hooves pressed against the smooth concrete wall.
Then they slipped gently backward.

Above the opening, its mother watched anxiously.
