I started typing with a clarity I hadn’t felt before. Each keystroke was a release of the burdens I had carried, a shedding of the weight of expectations I had never agreed to bear.
“Dear Family,” I began, the words forming like steady notes in a melody I was composing for myself, “I hope this message finds you well. I want to address the concerns you’ve raised following my Thanksgiving post. It seems there’s been a misunderstanding about my current circumstances and priorities.”
As I continued, I felt a sense of empowerment unfurl within me, fortifying the boundaries I was finally setting. “Over the past months, I’ve reflected deeply on my role in this family and what it means to be a mother to Maisie. This recent experience has been enlightening, to say the least. For years, I’ve contributed to the family financially and emotionally, often at my own expense. I did so out of love and a belief in family unity. However, the recent events have highlighted a dissonance in what family means to us.”
