Noelia Castillo Ramos’ story has shaken people around the world.
The 25-year-old Spanish woman was euthanized on Thursday — and now, heartbreaking new details are emerging about her final moments.
A 25-year-old woman whose life was shattered by repeated sexual assaults has died after choosing euthanasia — a decision that has sparked intense debate and heartbreak across Spain. Noelia Castillo Ramos, from Barcelona, had endured years of trauma, chronic pain, and legal battles before her final wish was granted.
A life marked by trauma and pain
Noelia’s story is as devastating as it is complex.
She was sexually assaulted on two separate occasions — first by an ex-boyfriend, and later by three men while living in a state-run care facility in 2022.
Just days after the second attack, she attempted to take her own life by jumping from a fifth-floor window.
The fall left her paralyzed from the waist down.

From that moment on, she lived with constant, severe pain — both physical and psychological — described as chronic, incapacitating, and with no chance of improvement.
However, her struggles began long before that. After her parents separated, she entered psychiatric care at just 13 and was later diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Reports say she had a history of self-harm and suicide attempts.
