“I might come crawling back?” I cut him off, injecting a cold edge into my voice. “After being cast out like a stray?”

“We were wrong, okay? Dad was wrong. You’re not a failure. You’re, well, you’re worth more than all of us put together now, aren’t you?” His voice was strained, a mix of admiration and desperation. “We heard about your… success.”

The irony was delicious. The very empire they’d dismissed as a waste of time had become the lifeboat for their sinking legacy. “I built something better, Christopher. I built something of my own,” I said, letting the weight of those words settle.

There was a pause, a crackling silence that spoke volumes. “Lauren, please,” he finally said. “We need you.”

I leaned forward, eyes fixed on the coastline view through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The ocean was a brilliant blue, the horizon stretching into infinity. “I’ll think about it,” I said, savoring the taste of power.

The call ended, and I placed the phone down gently on the desk, my mind racing with possibilities. I could buy the estate, rescue the firm, and become the savior of a family that had once treated me like an expendable asset. Or I could let them sink, allow the waves of their misjudgments to wash over them, erasing their legacy like footprints on a beach after high tide.

I took another sip of my juice, the cool liquid contrasting with the warmth of the sun streaming in. The possibilities were endless, and for the first time, I was the one holding all the cards.

The EstateEye dashboard continued to flash with updates, but I dismissed them for the moment, content to bask in the present. I had built my sanctuary, my empire, with nothing but determination and a refusal to be pigeonholed into a life that wasn’t mine.

As the day stretched into the evening, I felt an unfamiliar but welcome sensation: freedom. It was intoxicating, and I intended to savor every moment of it. The future was mine to shape, and whether or not my family would have a place in it was entirely up to me.

The reign was not just about wealth; it was about choice, about defining who I was on my own terms. And for the first time in my life, I felt truly alive.
