The Message Behind the Monument
The statue is accompanied by plaques on either side that leave little room for interpretation regarding the artist’s intent. The text reads:
“The tragic love story between Jack and Rose was built on luxurious travel, raucous parties, and secret nude sketches. This monument honors the bond between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, a friendship seemingly built on luxurious travel, raucous parties, and secret nude sketches.”
The organization Secret Handshake has claimed responsibility for the installation. In an interview with local news station WUSA9, the group revealed that the statue is supplemented by ten nearby banners commemorating the relationship between the two men.
“A Banner Year”
The group’s motivation appears to be a direct response to the President’s own recent branding efforts within the District of Columbia.
“Why? Because 2026 has been a banner year for President Trump,” Secret Handshake told the outlet. “Meaning… he’s added giant banners of his face to federal buildings all across DC. We want to help him on his mission by tossing a few of our own in the mix.”

A Recurring Satire
This is not the first time Secret Handshake has utilized the National Mall as a stage for political commentary. In September of last year, the organization installed a similar bronze statue of Trump and Epstein. That iteration was swiftly removed by the U.S. Park Police shortly after its discovery.
The current “Titanic” sculpture, however, is reportedly scheduled to remain on display until March 13. At the time of reporting, President Trump has not issued a formal comment regarding the installation.
