Heavy clouds covered the coastline while soft waves rolled steadily onto the wet sand beneath the cold afternoon sky. The beach remained mostly empty except for distant seabirds drifting above the water and the quiet sound of the ocean moving against the shore.
Near the edge of the water, something struggled helplessly on the sand.
A large sea turtle lay awkwardly flipped near the shoreline, unable to turn itself back toward the ocean. Its heavy shell pressed unevenly into the wet sand while small waves splashed around it before sliding back into the sea.
