My 17-Year-Old Daughter Cooked for 23 People to Celebrate Her Grandmother

My name is Rachel Morgan, and last weekend changed how I see my parents forever. What began with good intentions quickly turned into heartbreak. My daughter Emily is 17—quiet, kind, and incredibly talented in the kitchen. Cooking is how she shows love. For my mother’s 70th birthday, she insisted on cooking the entire meal herself for 23 people. For three days, she worked nonstop: homemade pasta, roasted chicken, desserts, salads—our kitchen was overflowing. She was exhausted but proud, hoping her grandparents would be proud too.

Two hours before the party, my dad texted: “We’ve decided to celebrate at a restaurant instead. It’s adults only.”
Emily read the message in silence, staring at the food she had poured her heart into. I had no words—only anger and heartbreak.
