Without another word, Tomás carried Alma back to the house, not bothering to knock on any door. He pushed it open, the old hinges groaning in protest. Inside, the dimly lit room was just as he remembered but bore the signs of struggle.

Tired faces looked up as he entered, but Tomás was not there to blame. His return, and the way he handled Alma’s vulnerability, made the townspeople reconsider their perceptions. Strength was not the absence of vulnerability, but the courage to face it with compassion and resolve.

In the days that followed, Tomás worked to rebuild not just his home, but the spirit of his family. The village, too, watched and learned — realizing that sometimes, the wounds that cut the deepest aren’t the ones seen on the battlefield, but those that settle in the heart, waiting to be healed by understanding and love.
