A rare disease

After undergoing steroid injections to treat pain and scarring from her breast reduction and C-section, Amy Schumer unknowingly developed Cushing’s syndrome, a dangerous condition caused by prolonged high cortisol levels.

Symptoms can include extreme puffiness, rapid weight gain around the face (sometimes called ‘moon face’) and neck, thinning limbs, and easy bruising.

For some people, it can even be life-threatening.

Schumer revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she wouldn’t have even realized what was happening without the brutal online comments:

”So I got these… steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

A 50-pound weight drop

Despite early reports claiming she’d lost 30 pounds, Schumer just clarified that the number is actually closer to 50 — and it wasn’t by choice.

She explained that she didn’t drop the weight “to look hot which does feel fun and temporary,” adding, “I did it to survive.”

The disease caused swelling in her face so severe it sparked countless cruel memes — but the good news is that she says the condition has since improved.

“I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you, but the internet caught it, and the disease has cleared.”

She also revealed she uses Mounjaro and has had “plastic surgery over the years,” but insisted she does not get Botox or fillers.

What’s really going on with Chris Fischer

The comedian also used her post to address swirling rumors about her marriage to chef Chris Fischer, whom she married in 2018. The couple share a 6-year-old son.

Some tabloids claimed the two were on the verge of divorce, while others suggested Fischer’s autism diagnosis was straining the relationship.

Schumer shut that down immediately:

”Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.”

A source previously told People that the couple is simply navigating the normal ups and downs of a long marriage: “They’re privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have. They are both committed to the relationship.”

And despite the rumors, Schumer ended on a hopeful note:
“Fingers crossed we can make it through, he’s the best.”
