Determined, Angela backed away from the window, her footsteps light against the asphalt. She didn’t want to be seen. She returned to the motel office, her hands trembling as she picked up the phone. With every ring, she prayed that she was doing the right thing.

“Phoenix Police Department, what’s your emergency?” a calm voice answered on the other end.

Angela took a deep breath. “Hello, my name is Angela Martinez. I work at the Sun Valley Motel. I think there’s a young girl in danger here.”

As she spoke, Angela kept her eyes on the security monitors, watching Room 112. The girl and her stepfather were still inside, the shadows on the curtains shifting occasionally. She provided the operator with all the details—Daniel Harper’s description, the girl’s appearance, the unusual behavior.

The operator told Angela to stay put and assured her that officers would be there shortly. Angela hung up, anxiety knotted in her stomach. She couldn’t shake the feeling of dread, imagining what might be happening in Room 112 while she waited.

Minutes felt like hours until the flashing red and blue lights of a police cruiser illuminated the motel parking lot. Two officers stepped out, their expressions serious as Angela rushed to meet them. She quickly recounted everything she had seen, the urgency in her voice undeniable.

The officers nodded and approached Room 112 cautiously. Angela watched from a distance, her heart pounding. They knocked on the door firmly, announcing themselves as police. There was a tense pause before Daniel opened the door, his expression one of feigned surprise.

Angela held her breath, hoping they would see through his facade. The officers spoke with Daniel briefly before one of them spotted the girl inside and gently coaxed her out of the room. Angela’s heart soared with relief as she saw the girl’s expression soften, gratitude replacing the fear.

As the officers escorted Daniel away for further questioning, Angela felt a mixture of emotions—relief, anger, and a fierce protectiveness for the girl. She approached the officers to check on her, offering a comforting smile.

“Thank you,” the girl whispered, her voice shaky but sincere.

Angela nodded, tears in her eyes. “You’re safe now,” she reassured her, grateful that she had followed her instincts and taken action.
