I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart as I leaned against the marble railing. The night sky was a contrast to the opulence inside, vast and unfettered, like my life outside this gilded cage. I was reminded of all the moments Alex and I had shared—simple joys and monumental achievements that didn’t require anyone’s validation but our own.

The sound of a car pulling up the gravel driveway drew me back to the present. I turned to see Alex stepping out of his vehicle, effortlessly elegant in his tailored suit. As he walked toward me, his confident stride exuded a calm assurance. He was the kind of man who commanded a room without uttering a word.

“Alex,” I called out, relief flooding through me as he reached the balcony.

“Athena,” he replied, his voice steady and warm. “Tell me who I need to talk to.”

I smiled, feeling an immediate lift in my spirits. “The entire party, if you’re up for it.”

Together, we walked back inside, hand in hand. The moment we entered the dining room, all eyes turned toward us. It was as if time paused, the air charged with an unspoken question—who was this man with Athena?

Victoria’s eyes widened, a flicker of recognition crossing her face as she realized who Alex was. The room buzzed with whispers.

“Everyone,” Alex began, his voice carrying effortlessly across the room. “I’m Alexander Sterling, Athena’s husband. I’ve heard so much about this esteemed family dinner and couldn’t resist the invitation to join.”

His introduction was met with a stunned silence. Richard’s mouth opened and closed like a fish, his earlier arrogance noticeably absent.

“Athena is more than my partner,” Alex continued, “She’s my equal in every way. Her kindness, wisdom, and grace are facets of her strength, something money can’t buy.”

As he spoke, I saw Victoria’s demeanor change. The woman who had so casually dismissed me a moment ago was now scrambling to maintain her composure.

“And to set the record straight,” Alex added, his gaze sweeping the room, “Athena is not a liability—she’s an asset to every life she touches. Including mine.”

The transformation in the room was palpable. The very people who had laughed moments ago were now regarding me with newfound respect.

Victoria, attempting to recover, offered a strained smile. “Well, it seems we’ve greatly underestimated you, Athena.”

I nodded, feeling a sense of triumph. “Perhaps. But now you know.”

The rest of the evening passed with a renewed atmosphere. No longer the outcast, I navigated the party with Alex by my side, unburdened by the earlier judgments. As we finally left, I glanced back at the estate, knowing I had stood up not just for myself, but for anyone who had ever felt underestimated.

Karma had indeed come full circle, and I was ready for whatever came next.
