“Miss,” Lucien addressed her gently, “let me help you.”

He extended his hand, and she hesitated only for a moment before accepting it. His grip was firm and reassuring as he helped her out of the pool. Ava stood beside him, trying to regain her composure, her dignity slowly returning under the reassuring presence of the millionaire.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hushed murmurs of the crowd.

Lucien nodded, then turned back to the assembled guests. “Let’s remember why we’re here tonight. This event is meant to uplift and support those in need, not to belittle or humiliate.”

With those words, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a checkbook. The crowd watched in anticipation as he scribbled on it, his actions drawing every eye in the vicinity. When he finished, he handed the check to Ava, who looked at it in disbelief.

“For you and your mother,” Lucien said, his tone kind and understanding. “I trust this will help with the hospital bills.”

Ava’s eyes brimmed with tears, but this time, they were tears of gratitude. “I don’t know how to thank you,” she stammered, overwhelmed by the generosity of this unexpected benefactor.

“Not necessary,” Lucien replied with a small smile. “Just promise me you’ll pay it forward when you can.”

The gesture left the crowd in awe. Many of the guests, who had moments ago been amused by Ava’s misfortune, now found themselves re-evaluating their actions. The ripple effect of Lucien’s intervention was palpable, a reminder of the power of kindness and integrity.

As the evening continued, the mood was noticeably more subdued and reflective. Ava, now wrapped in a borrowed towel, received sincere apologies from several guests, including a contrite Serena, who offered a genuine apology.

The gala resumed, but the incident by the pool was a turning point. Ava’s night had begun in anonymity and humiliation but ended with dignity and hope. And as she left the venue, she knew that Lucien Ward’s intervention had done more than just change the course of her evening; it had restored her faith in the goodness that still existed in the world.
